Mirror, Mirror on the wall… Will the perceptions of others be my downfall?

Being a Dungeon Monitor is an extremely important managerial role in the BDSM community. We’re the bouncers and the first responders. Responsible for both arranging and preparing scenes in addition to taking on more… janitorial duties. We are essential workers and nothing is below us. Our contemporary perspective is very important and we never take our responsibilities for granted. While working as Chief Dungeon Master / Dungeon Monitor or alongside a team of other DMs under the head of this group, we all have the same goals of proper execution, safety and following and respecting the safe, sane consensual (SSC) guidelines and/or risk-aware consensual kink (RACK) maxim.

Something that may seem silly to those who are not privy to this vocation is what we do in a play space setting can and should be utilized in the day-to-day vanilla world. We should respect everyone’s boundaries and limitations. All the things we value must be done and consented for others. Any events deemed “out of the ordinary” should not be judged. (Unless, of course, you are a sick fuck that is into any of the many kinks considered both illegal and deeply immortal. You know who you are!)

All that takes place in a dungeon is often viewed as taboo, because it’s different from the status quo. That’s why this lifestyle is not often worn on sleeves or openly discussed, as it can make the judgmental crowd “uncomfortable”. There is a common perception that this lifestyle is shameful to exercise and that it’s but an uncommon niche. I walk this path proudly while toeing the line as a DM and as a Pro-Dom. Yes, people find there is happiness in slavery (slavery, of course in the sense, that the subject submits, as a willing participant, and consent is given mostly in the form of role-playing). There is happiness in being a Dominant, a Submissive, a Switch, Top, Bottom, etc. Happiness is real. I’ve seen it in the eyes of many subs drifting into subspace, when they can finally escape, trusting me as their guide. While a strange line of work, it is completely necessary.

You must take pride in what you do and who you are, be happy with yourself.

At times, I refer to myself metaphorically as the male peacock. While not anatomically true, this is how I feel living with what I know. If Persephone can be the Queen of the Underworld and Goddess of Spring, you to can be a diverse multi-tasking, multi-talented entity. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: no one has yet to see you in your true form. It probably won’t be easy for them to comprehend. Although frustrating, all we can do is stop living in the shadows, present ourselves openly and be willing to teach those who do not understand. People often create an image of an illusion: what they want you to see due to insecurities. They are willing to sacrifice their feelings and truths to appease the masses. A true extension of non-consensual slavery.

Even more important than others respecting you: you must respect and love yourself. Do what you love, love what you do and simply be you. Even if you don’t realize it yet, you have an important role in life. You are Essential. We are all part of the universe’s master plan.

No one can or will ever truly know you until you tell the truth, your truth. Not just to them but to yourself.

Look in the mirror and stop judging yourself. Stop judging others and stop judging us. (It doesn’t hurt us Dominatrixes but it is annoying!)

And after all that I’ve written, regardless of if you can accept, the best advice I can genuinely give you is this: Stay Hydrated! It helps, no matter your path in life.
